Please note this is general guidance to assist the use of map, satnav or online route planner By car Depending on your starting point if travelling from the North the A20 motorway is an hour or so shorter than the A71 route after leaving Paris. The A20 autoroute also incurs a little less in toll charges. The A20 can be left at exit 54 or as late as exit 58. The A71 is more mountainous and scenic. The A71 can be left at exit 42 for Rodez. By plane By plane to Rodez (1 hour away) or Toulouse Airports (1 hour 45 minutes) as the closest. In 2020 Ryanair from London Southend to Rodez on Fridays and Mondays from 3rd July to 28th September 2019 inclusive. Also from Manchester to Rodez on Tuesdays and Saturdays June-September 2020. Easyjet, Ryanair, BA and others to Toulouse year round and daily from UK airports. Most visitors hire a car from the airport. Train services are available but only from city centres. Toulouse airport is linked by tram to its city centre. La Maleyrie is at least 30 minutes distant from any train service and the journey from the arrival station to the house would certainly need to be by car. By motorail Takes some advanced planning but an option for reducing the driving from Paris to Brive La Gaillarde (2 hours 15 minutes away) or Toulouse (1 hour 45 minutes away) and arriving more refreshed having seen something of Paris– sadly can be pricey even taking account of savings in fuel, motorway tolls, car wear and tear and the vouchers provided for free breakfasts. Limitations re car height and size need checking. The car travels in its own train and the passengers take their own train. Free parking for the day at both ends gives some flexibility. Free shuttle can be booked from Auto Train car parks to passenger train stations. |
