Location for a rest, or when ready to exploreLa Maleyrie is in a part of the Department of Aveyron known as the Segala. The Segala is on a limestone plateau, part of the Massif Central. The river Viaur and its tributaries have carved out the valleys which define its aspect, character and climate. Every farm engages in some fruit and vegetable growing but the fields around are dominated by pasture for horses, cows and sheep.
La Salvetat Peyralès is the closest village at 5km with bakery, butcher, mini-supermarket, bars and monthly market. A range of large supermarkets, street markets and restaurants are 20-45mins away by car. Villefranche de Rouergue (bastide town and market), Rodez (shopping, cathedral and museums) and Albi (Tarn capital, incredible cathedral and Bishop's Palace for Toulouse-Lautrec collection) are the nearest large towns. Cordes-sur-Ciel, Najac, Sauveterre de Rouergue and Belcastel are well worth visiting. |
